Wendy Jeanne Kyle, born December 15, 1976 (on her moms birthday) in Sierra Madre, Ca. passed away Tuesday morning May 29th, 2001 (on her sisters birthday) in Bakersfield, CA. She had been a resident of Washington state since 1983. Wendy was educated in the local Kennewick schools. She was well known for being bright and articulate with a loving and sweet spirit. She had a reputation as a professional artist with a deep love for animals. She worked as a volunteer at the animal rescue shelter. She is survived by her mother, Marcia Pack of Richland, WA. Her sister, Michelle Santos of Nashville, TN. Her sister, Laura Whitney of Germany. Her brother David Kyle, of Bellingham, WA. Her father, Richard Kyle of Yakima, WA. Her paternal grandmother, Virginia Kyle of Bakersfield, CA. Her uncle Larry Stickler and her aunt Nancy of Newbury Park, CA. Her uncle Richard Stickler of Spokane, WA. Also many other relatives and friends. Wendy was loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed, never forgotten.!!! Memorial services will be at 7:00pm. Tuesday June 5, 2001 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. 1321 Jadwin Ave., Richland, WA. In lieu of flowers...a donation in Wendy's name may be made to the Benton Franklin Humane Society.

Former Tri-Citian dies in California

A former Tri-Citian's death in Bakersfield, Calif., is being investigated as a homicide.

Wendy Jeanne Kyle, 24, died early May 29 in a small Bakersfield home where she had lived for about 16 months, said Sgt. Glenn Johnson of the Kern County Sheriff's Office. He said the department is treating the case as a homicide.

Johnson said police and fire departments responded to a fire call at Kyle's garage-size home in Bakersfield's Oildale neighborhood about 2 a.m. May 29.

Neighbors reported seeing flames near the home's cooling unit. While one neighbor battled the flames with a garden hose, his wife attempted to enter the house but was turned back by smoke and flames.

A deputy who arrived early entered the home, found Kyle lying on the floor near her bed and pulled her outside. She was already dead and showed signs of trauma on her head, Johnson said.

Johnson said investigators are trying to piece together Kyle's life and to retrace her steps in her final hours.

Kyle was last seen around midnight at a pair of downtown Bakersfield bars that she frequented. She was last seen between 11 p.m. and midnight May 28 at the VIP Lounge, about two hours before she was found dead.

The coroner's office is waiting for lab results to determine the exact cause of death, said Margaret Soliz of the Kern County Coroner's Office.

Johnson said the fire is being investigated and is considered suspicious.

Kyle was born in Sierra Madre, Calif., but spent much of her childhood in Kennewick and Finley, said Edward Potoshnik, a friend of the victim's mother, Marcia Pack of Richland.

Potoshnik said Kyle moved to California about two years ago to live near her paternal grandparents. She was an artist and an animal lover who volunteered at a local animal rescue shelter, he said.

Other survivors include her father, Richard Kyle of Yakima, and sisters Michelle Santos of Nashville, Tenn., and Laura Whitney of Germany.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel, 1321 Jadwin Avenue, Richland. Memorial donations are suggested to the Benton-Franklin Humane Society, 8620 W. Gage Blvd., Kennewick, 99336.

Where are Wendy's Friends?

On memorial Day Wendy Jeanne Kyle was last seen at the Mint in Bakersfield. She went there to join her friends for fun. Where are her friends now? Did they see who she left with or notice anyone watching her and if so has anyone come forward to tell what they saw or heard?

I am pleading with wendy's friends who must know something as they all socialized together and news travels fast when something so horriffic as this happens. All i ask is to call the SECRET WITNESS HOTLINE and call in any tips anonymously that even a small piece of information that could be linked with others to form a picture and that would be most appreciated! Simple things like say a tatoo or a scar, what the person was wearing such as a baseball cap or anything that they may recall even yrs. later. The man that seemed to be annoying wendy or who may have tampered with her drink when she went to the ladies lounge. Did she mention a name or going to a party afterwards? Would it be possible to meet somewhere again and tell each other what they know and compare notes, then be brave soldiers and march in together to the sheriff's dept. and report in person or in other ways they feel comfortable? I understand their fears but maybe they can try understand mine and Wendy's families also and that a grieving mother just never gives up trying or hope.

They can email, call or write a letter. No matter how simple or silly it seems it could be valuable infor. Even if shocked and too numb to speak back then can still be reported now. It is never to late if anyone remembers anything that could he a link to the many other clues or tips to make a big picture or another piece to the puzzle.

The run-down garage she lived in wasn't even fit to inhabit, yet she paid top dollar for rent there. She planned to move to a decent place but she didn't get to thanks to her violent death. She needed a nice home but instead she went to her heavenly home. That is a comfort to us!

Now to set the record straight...the landlords reported to the media that Wendy slept all day. I wonder how they would know that...!!! She is not the lowlife that they so implied. It's no wonder that the sheriff was so passive to solving the crime as though they felt she deserved it. She worked nights at the Mint and so she slept some but also wrote poetry, read her books and did creative art work and how about watching some TV and just talking on the pho? DUH!

She would have been an accomplished artist and poet someday. She, being so intelligent, planned to go to college and wanted to get married with children. She can't do that now and I will never get to see her walk down the aisle or my grandchildren. She was a gift to me! God sent her on my birthday and we always celebrated them together. She died on her sister's birthday so it is impossible for laura to enjoy her own birthday thinking of her poor sister's death nor can i enjoy mine now without her to celebrate together. I didn't receive my child from God to have some monster steal her away from me! Our whole family died right along with Wendy!

She didn't get honored or respected when her dad quickly cremated her which meant to me, finish her off with more fire and burning of her body! Her dad kept the ashes and had no funeral for her so her family and friends could all attend. Sadly Wendy's burned down apt. was the cemetery to which many who loved her placed plants and flowers all around her place. I am so glad someone honored her! I am in deep gratitude for those who did! She was so loved by many! Thank the lord that we honored her with a beautiful memorial service here in Tri-Cities WA. Her big sister Laura sang....my heart will go on by Celine Dion. I am just so sad that there wasn't one for Wendy's friends to meet but i was told by a dear friend of Wendy's named Brenda that they did hold a memorial service at the Vip Lounge. I hope to meet Wendy's friends to say thanks for their love and support of her. She knows she is still loved and missed by them and they will all be together again as friends in the next life and no more pain and suffering for anyone and will be one big continuous party!

I wasn't informed of my child's death until 3 days later so too late to protest her being cremated. It's ok for others to do that but when a child is brutally murdered and set on fire it made me feel like we just continued to show more disrespect for her body so let's just finish her off. Normally it would be different but in this case i say a closed casket burial would have honored her more. My poor son was finally permitted to call me and had to be the bearer to me of bad news. What a terrible position to be put in. The detective got ahold of me three weeks later as they had learned that I was alive after all. Who told them I was dead I have no idea. Actually I do. It is indeed sad just because I got a divorce that I am punished for it. Some people don't ever learn to show respect even in such a tragedy as this!

Various people went into Wendy's burned down apartment to take what they wanted and I was left with nothing. Did the detective give permission to these vultures? I doubt it and what about the ashes from her cremation? Her dad has them and is not wanting to share them. How thoughtful. Well she is with me in spirit anyway and her physical body is not who she is. The body is temporary til death then the eternal body lives forever! How thankful i know this to be true! She visits me in dreams a lot and i know she is happy in her perfect heavenly home.

She was so spiritual and touched so many lives with her sweet, sweet spirit. She loved helping people and taking care of pets that no one else seemed to want. She had such a big heart and for someone to harm her makes no sense at all as she had no enemies. Maybe this is a serial killer she didn't know and was picked randomly. The next victim could be you or someone you love.

You can help get the perpetrators off the streets and make it a safer world in fighting this evil called crime which is destroying innocent lives. THANK YOU Wendy's friends and any others who just know something, please step up to the plate and do the right thing. GOD BLESS...!
Wendy's kitty named Sunny burned in the fire along with her and they are together happy in heaven. They were inseperable and so comforting to know that!

I have written many stories for the californian but they were not accepted such as the ones above but is ok as i was quite angry back then as u can see. Take note of the date!

I wrote this story in hopes we can get the case re-opened and with your help we will and we will solve it and if we can all learn from this tragedy to be our brothers and sisters keeper! We can help deter this evil thing called crime. We can all be crime stoppers!

Mother Seeks Help for Terrorism Done To Daughter !!!

Now is the time to fight terrorism in your own backyards before it grows much larger!
I hope the New York terrorism has triggered those in Bakersfield memories of Wendy Kyle's terrorism all alone in her own home. I urge this wake up call for those who know who and why this senseless crime happened. Please be a hero and show your patriotism. Wendy born in 1976 bicentennial yr. Dec.15th on my birthday and died at the hands of terrorists or murderers on "Memorial Day" on her sisters birthday May 29th. In the New York tragedy we know who and why and military action taken. We do not know who or why and no action taken unless some brave soldiers...(you) cares to come forward and talk to the detectives working on this already cold case but we still need justice for Wendy and for her family to move forward.
